The title itself made me laugh. Lots of things lurk in garages and in attics and basements. When we lived in Ohio, we had all three so when it came time to move, it was quite a chore. 🙂 Had to downsize a lot to go to Illinois but no attic there so less space. Now we live where there’s no attic and no basement, so only the garage. Does make one downsize, but you still have to be ruthless every so often.
I’m dreading our eventual down-sizing. We have two garages, plus access to what’s basically a hangar at the inlaws. We started filling that when we moved to the UK in 1991 and have been adding stuff ever since. I’m better at clearing out than T, but he is better at fighting the cobwebs and dodgy ladder to actually access the stuff. Hence, it remains.
I heartily suggest starting now but starting small. Our attic-basement-four-large bedrooms house sold while we were on vacation and we moved, including donating or chucking 27 years worth of stuff, in a week and two weekends. Never again!!

I have been stealthily clearing out for years, but there is still a long way to go. The stuff at the inlaws is the hardest in a way — “out of sight, out of mind” most of the time.
