One of the definitions of partner offered by the Merriam-Webster dictionary is:
one of two or more people, businesses, etc., that work together or do business together
Perhaps one shouldn’t talk about foodstuffs being “in partnership”, but it is true that some combinations of food flavours, textures and even colours work well together.
Cheese and onion, dark chocolate and orange, fish and chips. Some combinations are common-place; others may be more a matter of personal taste.
Here are some food partnerships you’ll find in my kitchen.

When I cook, it´s also quite colour-oriented so to speak: love the italian colours very much, for example some nice penne rigate, green asparagus, babay tomatoes and freshly grated parmesan/or feta… 🙂 Keeping a meal simple nearly always guarantees the best results, I feel 😉 Too many ingredients and your palate gets overwhelmed. Just sipping at my green tea but would love to sip from your latte right now 😉

I so agree about colour — and keeping it simple! We sometimes watch a TV cooking programme called ‘Three Good Things’ where the chefs have to cook with only three main ingredients. It’s a principle I’m trying to follow. 😃

That sounds like a pretty awesome cooking programme? Will see if I can watch it on youtube! Most italian dishes work that way and it is always amazing how wonderful they taste.

Aw thank you :-). I love to cook; it’s very much my way of sharing love. I love Italian sort of flavours (garlic, tomato, basil being one of my “three good things” combinations), but I’m not crazy about pasta. Here’s a link to the Guardian’s cooking section. Delicious pairings and dishes all round, Su. They look absolutely mouth-watering and I’m sure your kitchen is quite popular 😀 I really like the lentils, feta and baby tomatoes. That dish look so fresh and it could be a filling breakfast or a refreshing light lunch. Apart from what you have suggested, I think cheese and ham always, always go well with toasted multi-grain bread 😀

Thanks Amanda. It’s funny that as I’ve got more interested in food photography, I’ve learned it’s best to separate out cooking to photograph, from cooking to eat. By the time I’ve messed around with food on the plate to get the “right shot” — it’s getting cold and not so tasty. Irony; the more “natural” the image looks, the more staged it probably is. 🙂

🙂 My pick too. I cook red meat for my boys, but prefer fish and vegetarian food. Tuna is one of my favourites.

Mine also! I don’t eat any red meat and very little poultry. Mostly fish and vegetarian.

Hm. I suspect that it’s more to do with the fact that I find cooking an outlet for creativity that appeals to my pragmatic nature. I like to make stuff, and making food (which I can pretty much guarantee will be eaten) seems more practical that painting or knitting or whatever. After all, there are only so many walls to hang the paintings on, and only so many knitted sweaters a person can wear!

Yes, I think I’ve mentioned before how cooking is stressful for me, not at all an outlet for creativity, but simply a means to an end—eating! But then—I don’t paint or knit either! I wonder why they have kept me around for so long…. 🙂

My mum is the same. I think she was incredibly relieved when we all left home and she didn’t have to think up (and cook) meals for us anymore. These days her cuisine choices might be called minimalist!

Hehe. He texted last night to say he cooked spaghetti carbonara for his first meal in his new home. It’s a dish I particularly dislike, and he loves, so I think it will get cooked quite a lot in the new place.
