Thank Jo. We were on a road trip, so what’s not to love (apart from not being able to see the mountain, even when we’d been half-way up, staying in a fancy schmancy hotel 🤣🤣
Hi Margaret. It’s a fairly desolate part of the country, but one I love and always feel very happy in — even when the clouds are obscuring a very lovely mountain 😂
I’ve been watching a lot of programs about New Zealand Su and I think of you. Such lovely terrain, although your photo is a little bleak, there’s incredible beauty there.

That is both a stark and a striking image. Were you shooting from a moving vehicle? Or were the winds bending all the plants over, keeping them in motion?
I have to agree with the “moody” comments. Although it could give a bad vibe, here in the desert, I’d be praying for those clouds to dump some rain. We got about 10 minutes or less of really good rain yesterday and I’m so thankful for that, which sounds silly, but considering we only average 9″ a year, every little bit is a blessing. 🙂
My husband says we had a good rain last night; “good” meaning steady and for an hour or so. Going outside this morning I could tell that it had rained. Hopefully we’ll keep getting more. Bit by bit it adds up.
Fingers’ crossed for you. We seem to have had our few days of sunshine and the rain is heading our way again. But I’ve managed to get quite a lot done in the garden, so I’m fine with that.
That’s a very lonely view, Su.
There’s something about those enormous power stands that speaks of endless solitude.

It’s an amazing place — one of my favourite destinations in NZ. Despite there being no place to get coffee for about 100kms 😂😬

Good morning Su. Good to see you here, even if your post, though lovely, is not up-beat x

Love driving over the desert road. We once drove through a sand storm…quite dramatic.

Blimey! I’ve driven through lots of heavy rain and some snow flurries, but never sand.

Thank you Leslie. The Rangipo Desert is one of the most desolate-looking places in NZ.

Thank you. Moving car. We gave up trying to find somewhere to stop and photograph the mountain as the clouds were coming in so fast.

We’ve had two years of drought, so I have a whole new appreciation for rain. Definitely getting lots of it here at the moment 😬
