This is one of the first photos I posted last year, from a piece titled Weathered but not broken.
2018 has begun with the same lowering skies and thundery rain as when I took the photo — on January 1 2017.
Now, as then, the tectonic plates upon which my life rests feel as active (if not shaky) as those whose movement shape my country’s landscapes.
Now, as then, I am weathered but not broken.
“That’s the thing about rocks–they don’t break easily. When I held them, I wanted to be like them-strong and steady, weathered but not broken.”
― Ellen Dreyer, The Glow Stone
That was a lovely start to last year.

Thanks Leslie. We were driving back from some friends’ wedding and it was a pretty special day anyway. 🙂

Oh, that title, “Weathered but not Broken”. I wish I had thought of it.

🙂 I haven’t read the book the line comes from, but the phrase itself is so evocative, isn’t it. 🙂

There’s drama in this shot with that glowering sky! Hope your ‘weathered’ start holds strong and that’s not a storm brewing with those shifting tectonic plates.

So foreboding and dramatic. It sure set the tone for 2017, didn’t it?

Sadly, yes.

I am so glad you shared this capture again as I didn’t get to see it last year – it is incredible: raw, dynamic, mysterious, a story waiting to be told. Looking forward to seeing more of the world through your eyes in 2018!

It’s a wonderful photo but I hope the skies for you will be just a little brighter this year. 🙂
