Detail of statue seen in Aigantighe Art Gallery, in Timaru, NZ. Image: Su Leslie 2018
I’m joining Sarah at Art Expedition in taking part in the Seven Day Black & White Photo Challenge.
The rules are:
Seven days. Seven black & white photos of your life. No people. No explanations. Challenge someone new everyday.
I know the rules say “no people” but truly, despite appearances, he’s not real.
And I don’t really do the “challenge someone” thing, but I invite anyone who’d like to join in to do so.
He looks so real Su.

He’s one of a pair; “guarding” the entrance to a sculpture garden.

Wow! What an impressive statue! Do you know which material was used? It looks quite dark, is it clay?

It looks like rusted steel. I tried for ages to find out about it, but the gallery website was pretty hopeless. I don’t normally post images of art without attribution but I could find nothing about this. I’ll post the colour shot at the end of the challenge.

It’s so frustrating when galleries and museums don’t offer these kind of informations. Look forward to the colour shot! 😄 xxxxxxx

I was really surprised. It’s the first time I’ve totally failed to find any reference to a work online

It is. It’s one of a pair I saw at a gallery in the South Island.

Isn’t it. The Big T reckons it looks like his grandfather (and actually I can see the resemblance).

I’ll take you up on this when you are towards the end, okay? I like these black & white challenges. I just have a really full schedule for the four days, but after the 12th, it opens up! I mean, if you are interested.

He looks alive. I wonder if a color rendition would spoil that illusion.

Hehe. Yes; he looks like he’s made of rusted steel. I’ll post the colour shot at the end of the seven days.
