Every year, long-ago planted freesia corms burst forth at our place and bring a scattering of flowers — often in the strangest places.
I’m not complaining though; their scent is wonderful.

What a lovely flower you captured, Su! Are they native NZ flowers?

I love the scent of freesias, sadly a lot of those you buy are scent less. Gorgeous portraits of such a delicate flower.

Thanks Jude. Iโve noticed that with the bought ones too. Ours are really small โ barely 4-5 inches high, but the smell is divine ๐

although I’m highly allergic to the strong smell of fresias, I love their fragile appearance and I find it amazing that they just ‘pop up’ where you live…… Gorgeous shots too!

What a terrible allergy to have โน๏ธ
They are my motherโs favourite flowers and she couldnโt believe they grew wild in NZ either. In the first few up years we were here she would crazily pick them from every roadside โ always feeling guilty โ though no-one cared, or seemed to want them.

If the flowers are half as beautiful as the photos and have a scent as well, you’re blessed to have them show up!

They smell absolutely wonderful, but ours are tiny and a bit straggly. They donโt do much to make the garden look good, but are lovely in tiny vases around the house.

Hmm, not sure Iโve ever smelled a freesia. I may have to investigate planting some. Though, I prefer pinks or purple flowers. Iโll see if they come in those varieties.

They smell wonderful; think Diorโs JโAdore or Chanelโs Allure, and there are coloured varieties โ often purplish or yellow-orange. But I think this most highly scented are often not much to look at โ like ours, which are tiny and straggly.

You have captured them so magically, Su! I love the light through the petals.

Thank you so much. The light in my new “studio” — aka the old tv room — is really good.

They are gorgeous! Is it spring in New Zeeland now?

Yes: lots of new growth, but itโs been very cold and windy so I do worry about the flowers ๐ฌ
