Pohutukawa, or New Zealand’s native “Christmas tree” is beginning to flower along the Coromandel coast, wreath ini many of the small beaches we’ve visited in crimson and green.
Beautiful photo.
Are they early this year flowering, I see them already from my computer, as I look out the window.
Usually, it’s a couple of weeks before christmas, before I see them.
I love your ‘Christmas trees’ – they must be earlier this year as they were only just coming into flower in December when I was in NZ three years ago. Beautiful photo π
It comes all decorated for you – nice.

These remind me of some flowers I’ve seen in Arizona near where my parents live. So pretty. Have a wonderful weekend, Su.

They are a member of the myrtle family, so could be related.

Thank you. I found these at a very sheltered Coromandel beach, so perhaps there is a micro-climate here that allows them to flower earlier π

I was thinking the same, but perhaps they do flower earlier over here in Coromandel? I’ve not been here at this time of year before π

What a lovely sight! I have my first feijoa flowers. Not quite as grand, but I love that little splash of red and green.

I think our tree must have put all its energy into just one or two flowers π
