… on the road. Especially the Desert Road which traverses the North Island’s volcanic central plateau. Although the road is often busy, the landscape itself is barren and desolate.
… or perhaps the road to the Whakapapa ski-field and a few nights of luxury at the Chateau Tongariro.
Perhaps it’s because I’m a coastal dweller, but I always find peace and a sense of well-being in the mountains.

Wow. I love that sky in the first one. I’d drive right into those clouds. And then there’s the snow-covered mountain. Wonderful shots!

Thanks Marilyn. That’s my kind of snow!
BTW: the mountain in shot (Mt Ngauruhoe), was Mt Doom. 🙂

There’s something about mountains, that’s for sure! And beaches, and forests…all magical places where the very air changes.

That’s true Deb. And there definitely a change of air. I’d love to live near/on the mountains, but I am slightly freaked out by the fact that they are active volcanoes.

Both excellent shots and I wouldn’t mind being a passenger in your car 🙂

Hehe. As I usually do solo road trips, it would be weird if you were in the back. I’d feel obliged to wear a chauffeur’s cap and call you ma’am. 🙂

These scenes remind me of driving through New Mexico a few years ago—same open fields, big sky, and mountains looming in the distance. Beautiful, Su!

Thanks Amy. I imagine the distances in New Mexico would be much greater. 😀

Could be—but NM is actually smaller than NZ, though I have no idea how much of NZ looks like that! Much of NM does, or at least the parts we saw.

It’s something I dream about (literally) quite often. But in my dreams I’m always driving a sports car 😂
