I wish! Out of shot were two photographers with massive tripods and gear bags, and the combined Westlake High rowing eights β boys and girls β plus boats, coaches and assorted hangers-on. All we needed was a brass band and a hot-dog stand.
Might be my favorite time of day…but better without all the things and people we can’t see in this shot. I’m always happy when other people enjoy the outdoors, but even happier when they do it when I’m not around. π
I could often get away with being the only person during a morning walk when I was in Illinois. Here the Preserve is quite popular even at 5:30 am or so when I walk, but I can usually have at least a bit of time to myself and the rest isn’t too crowded. Birders are a avid group, whatever the time of day and I supposed some people have to go to work afterwards. π
I can’t remember the last time I was able to take a morning walk in relative solitude. My neighbourhood is full of joggers and dog-walkers. There is even a yoga class in the village hall that seems to start at some ridiculously early hour — and to which people drive!
Su, looks a very serene moment.

Su–I went from a total Zen moment looking at your photo to busting up reading your description of what you did NOT photograph!

The best selfies I have taken of us while travelling is after a “disagreement when we ‘re both tired. Yes, the camera never lies π

Thanks Sue. We had a pretty short window before the boats and rowers took over the pier.

I like the way the early morning light penetrates the fog cover to illuminate seascape, Su.

As long as I didn’t look behind me at all the other people arriving at the wharf. Two high school rowing teams were about to take to the water.
