Oh no, and that silver beet? looks super crunchy. I think I have a similar problem, but have not caught them in the act yet. I’ve heard squashed egg shells spread round will deter them. I’m saving my egg shells now to give it a go.
I use eggshells and it does seem to work. I’ve deliberately left a patch unprotected because I needed a photo of snail damage for my horticulture course. Now I’ve got it, I’ll be out with the crushed eggshells tomorrow 😀
Eggshells don’t work for me! Nor does sharp grit, copper tape or garlic spray. Determined little b***ers in Cornwall! And I have heard that snails will come back if not taken more than 100 yards away. I throw mine into the farmer’s field and hope they get too exhausted trying to climb through the brambles to come back!
Blimey!! Eggshells and diatomaceous earth both seem to have an impact in my garden, but picking them off is probably the best thing. I probably don’t throw them far enough away though 😬

Sounds like all out war in your patch Jude. We didn’t have a SnS problem till just recently. I think our resident blue tongue has gone walk about. I’m sure he used to keep them under control. I’m saving eggshells to try out, hoping it works
Egg shells never worked for us, what did, was a nighttime raid with a torch and digital destroyers. Not sure we ever ate a piece of silverbeet without holes in it.
Ugh! 😂 That’s so unfair that the snails get to eat all your veggies. I sometimes have the same, one time in a matter of a single day all my rocket was eaten by a caterpillar! 😂 This year I’m having trouble with my basil. 😂😂

It’s amazing how much they eat!! When we had the milkweed for the monarch caterpillars, we watched them stripping whole plants.
