Well, if Gerry Durrell said it, it must be true.
HANG ON ! – he was an animals bloke, not a gardens bloke !!
Hmm.
HAVE you been pouring brandy onto your sweet pease then, Sue ? – this is a beauty.

Only the Xmas cake and moi have partaken.

Brandy? A tiny bit extravagant, but they look absolutely gorgeous 🙂 🙂

My sweet peas drink nothing but water (and not much of that until today). Now I’m wondering if they’re feeling neglected. The Christmas cake has had most of the brandy 😉😂

I have white port available 🙂 🙂

I can’t drink port after an unfortunate over-indulgence. I blame the 80s 😂😬😉

I though you were offering me a drink. Save it for our tea! ☕😉

Now there’s a thought. Though the cake is probably fairly alcoholic by now.

haha! This is gonna be such a fun first tea of the new year! That flower is the most beautiful shade if red, too.

and this ‘rose’ is thriving on a glass of red…. lol

I love sweet peas Su. Must get some for the garden. Not sure I’d share my brandy with them.

Such a lovely colour. I am going to have another attempt at growing sweet peas this year from seed. I do love their scent.

Thanks Jude. This is my first attempt at growing them. Next year I’ll grow from seed — and plant more!!

I love the sweet flowers very much. They are so delicate and beautiful. Your amazing shot definitely supports my view. Brandy? I prefer to drink it myself, in small amounts of course. Slivowitz is my favourite plum brandy. Have a great Friday, Su!

I’ve never tried slivowitz — but have a friend who discovered it (a little too enthusiastically) in Sarajevo.
But whatever the drink, I think it’s probably wasted on the sweet peas

I agree. We can learn a lot from flowers. They know all about moderation except perhaps when showing off their beauty.

Not wasting alcohol on flowers but that’s a beautiful red and even better with drops!

That makes two of us. It does seem like strange advice.

Maybe like the advice the doctor gave my grandmother when the boys were teething: “Take a shot of whiskey, rub their gums with it, then drink the rest.” May be an apocalyptic story, but it’s a good one.

Apocryphal? Auto-correct?
But perhaps not actually. My mother told me her mum had suggested that when I was teething.

Yes, apocryphal. What did it turns out as? The drinking what’s left part amuses me. I think I’d uses a good red. 😉

There is just nothing like the scent of a sweet pea. I must get my seeds sown.

Agreed; i wish I’d planted mine closer to the house.

Red sweet peas? I thought they were only white. Huh – I learn something new everyday. The blood red is very striking.

I didn’t realise the colour when I bought them. I’ve only ever seen really pastel colours — pinks and lilacs. I’m excited to see what other colours I may have accidentally planted 😂

Nah! I won’t share my drugs and alcohol with my flowers! 😁
