Yesterday.
The sun was shining and my kitchen was full of lovely, yellow corn cobs. Thoughts turned to inviting friends round for a barbecue.
Today.
The rain has arrived. And Auckland has gone back into (so far a very temporary) Covid lock-down.
I’m happy about the rain; the garden looks greener already.
The lock-down; not so much. But I appreciate our government taking such a proactive stand.
And I still have lots of lovely yellow sweetcorn to enjoy.
Not to mention a post for Jude’s Life In Colour project.

Fresh corn at this time of the year is wonderful … well, given the seasonal adjustment of our hemispheres.

I love corn on the cob. When it was in season in Illinois, I used to by several dozen, “blanche” them in the microwave for a minute each, shuck them, cut the kernels off, and freeze. When reheated, they tasted virtually like I’d just cut them from the cob after cooking.

My mother used to do that — but blanched in water in pre-microwave days. And yes, they tasted wonderful.

That looks so plump and juicy makes my mouth water at the thought of bbqing them. Oh no, not the dreaded virus again. Pleased our governments get onto it so quickly. Will we ever be able to plan long term again…..

Thanks Pauline. Hopefully this lock-down will only last the 3 days that have been mandated. I suppose we should have expected it to happen sometime, but this one has hit people quite hard emotionally.

well glad it was delicious – and I only tried to grow corn one time – when the children were little and was not worth all the space the stalks take up – and not all areas are set up for corn growing – eh?

I just love the way rain brings out the colors outside. Right now, we are getting a spell of freezing rain and sleet so everything is shades of grey.

Well, I am working from home again due to about a half inch of ice everywhere. This is when I thank heaven for technology.

Home grown? It is a lovely image and I love corn. Especially on another dull day. Though temperatures have soared from Saturday’s frigid 3 degrees to a balmy 12.5 degrees today!

Not home-grown 😦 I had intended to try a “three sisters” garden with corn, beans and squash but left it a bit late.
